Canadian IMP 14 - Menu 15 Stuffed Pasta With Ricotta

Post by parafireboy » Mon Aug 14, 2017 7:39 pm

I had a little overnight getaway in the mountains recently, and took along IMP 14 menu 15, which is the stuffed pasta with ricotta. This was my first time having this menu.
Ration Sealed
Let's open it up and see what we have. . .
I won't list the contents this time, since the photo shows it pretty well. :)

I heated the entree via BIB method for about 8 minutes. While it heated, I went ahead and put the fruit cocktail in a bowl, made the pineapple/orange beverage mix, and got ready for dinner. Both the fruit cocktail and the pasta were made by Baxter.

Here it is all plated and ready.
The shells were study, and stuffed with a generous amount of ricotta cheese filling. The flavor was mild and pleasant. The sauce was a traditional tomato-based sauce with just enough seasoning to complement it without making it overpowering. It was milder than a typical American commercial spaghetti sauce. It was filling, and I would be pleased to get this entree again.

The fruit cocktail was pretty plain and simple. It was not unlike any canned fruit cocktail you would find in the grocery store. It was in a light syrup, and had grape, pear, peach, pineapple, and cherry pieces in it.
Fruit Cocktail
The maple sugar cookies were OK. A little bit bland, with a very subtle maple flavor. Not my favorite ration desert, but not my least favorite either.

The hamburger bun was good, and with the honey and peanut butter, made a nice side item with the meal.

The beef jerky is an old nemesis of mine. I've had this Hero Bros. jerky before in IMPs, and it is one of my absolute least favorite ration items. The jerky is very tough, with a very low moisture content. Nothing like the turkey nuggets or beef snack strips in US rations. With these, I'm usually good for about one or two pieces before I discard the rest.
The pineapple/orange beverage was very refreshing. The Dr. Oetker beverages in the IMPs are some of my favorites.

This looks really good. As something of an Italian food connoisseur, I like lots of tomato sauce. Too bad the cheese to sauce ratio wasn't quit even but if you're out in the boonies, I'm sure it would do just fine. And I can only imagine what a nice addition the fruit cocktail must have been. If I'm ever in the market for some IMPs, I will keep an eye out for this one!
If we don't study the mistakes of the future, we're bound to repeat them for the first time.

Great review brother. The pinnanple/orange drink mix is one of my favorite. Bested only by the raspberry. Nice pics! I seriously need to get back out to Montana soon. These Tennessee summers are way too hot!

PM me your mailing address again. I have a box of goodies for you and will throw in a bunch of the Canadian drink mixes as well.
