Odd MRE Ration Heater

So I pulled this out of a 2012 Wornick Ratatoulle MRE, Never saw this kind of heater before. I assume it is a back-up brand for when supply is low for the standard heater. Anyone seen these before?
It looks to be a bit smaller than the standard.

Yes, I had a bunch of. They came with the regular MREs in 2002?
