2013 Menu 7 Beef Brisket

This was supposed to be my first video review but I bottled it last minute and went for an old fashioned picture review

This arrived today, 2013 (3298) Menu 7 Beef Brisket and it was my dinner after work.
Everything plated up, that reminds me I need to get a tray.
Main meal heated and plated up, the meat wasn't dry and it was good quality but I wasn't overly impressed, it tasted fine but it sort of reminded me of the meals in the old British 24 hour packs that we moved away from - Decent filling meals but simple/boring. Its basically a pouch of what I'd know in the UK as meat pie filling, just seemed lacking something even after adding salt I wasn't impressed. The mash was OK and the butter duds certainly helped. The Chernobyl juice (Lemon Lime powder) was good, I've had that before.
I did Gundog it up and make a beef and potato wrap which made it a little more interesting.
The cookie and toffee candy were great, the chocolate peanut butter was a nice surprise as I don't think I've had it from an MRE before, it went on a tortilla as a strange wrap and as frosting for the cookie.
Overall, not the best MRE entree and side I've had and I'd probably avoid it.

There's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned picture review. It still has its place, especially for those of us who aren't able to watch a video for whatever reason. Not to mention the high resolution pictures are a huge plus. I wasn't particularity impressed with this menu either. I love most of the other MREs, but if I'm choosing, I make an effort to avoid this one along with the pork and some of the chicken meals. I found the entree too salty and fatty. In addition to that, it simply didn't taste very good in general.

I had the 2010 version of this meal so the pros were: it came with a chocolate chip cookie, cheese spread and crackers, candy and cocoa. So I spared those and gave the rest to somebody who'd enjoy it.
If we don't study the mistakes of the future, we're bound to repeat them for the first time.

Oddly enough, I find the brisket terrible when heated up, but my absolute favorite entree when eaten cold. I have probably eaten a warm MRE once in my life out of the 100's I've ate. We didn't have time to heat them up!

I so wish I had read all of this before trying this as my first ever MRE on the weekend. After watching loads of MRE review videos the brisket entree wasn't a very good introduction...
