I've been working on a British 24 Hour Ration pack (P3, packed 12/04) and I see they've got new chocolate bars, two of them per box. It is plain bar chocolate.

They remind me a little of the old "John Wayne bars" in the C Rations. There's the same slightly waxy texture that chocolate has when it's been formulated to resist melting. The used to call it "tropicalized chocolate" in U.S. rations.

I love the "civvie" on the wrapper wearing a dress and holding a purse. Nice touch!

I've been offered a Carton of 10 P3's what do you think of it ??

P3 is the Balti I believe ??

When I found the P3 menu on the ration list on the box, I had no idea what "balti" is. The main meal pouch actually says "chicken curry with rice".

Had to get the dictionary out, but now it is clear. I have the feeling that Indian food is much, much more popular in the UK than it is here in the US. I haven't eaten that part yet, but it doesn't sound too bad (I think).

I've only done side dishes and crackers so far, and they are all excellent. The apples and custard was very tasty, as are the Yorkies. I had the powdered white tea and brown biscuits for breakfast this morning. The tea already has some kind of creamer mixed into the powder, and it didn't need any of the 6 (!) huge sugar packets included with the accessories.

Does the MoD really pack 10 of the same meal to a case? I don't think I could eat 10 of the same menu even if it was something I really liked.

I'll have to see if I can find a copy of the original Yorkie bar but the ones I've seen in the past have said "It's not for girls" on it - which is why that icon is still a woman's icon but it looks like they PC'd out and changed "girls" to "civvies".

I notice that although they changed the slogan, they added the purse to the figure to make it more clear that is a female.

the menu p3 from 2001 to 2003 is chicken balti and the p3 2004 are
made in norway at dry tech tromso, and its chicken curry hoter than
chicken balti from 2001/3

I was thinking that balti was another name for the chicken curry dish.

Actually, balti is a curry spice mixture,named after a region in pakistan.

I really doubt it. Unlike Italian or Mexican, Indian/Pakistani food is not mainstream here in the States.

I love food, and have no food aversions, but I admit that I've never been in an Indian or Pakistani reataurant. And during 10 years in the U.S. Army, I can recall meeting only a single soldier of Indian/Pakistani descent (a doctor).

The Indian restauranteurs here in my part of Virginia are all making pizza and subs!
