Picked this up to fill out an order online. This is the typical dried fruit that comes with every MRE STAR brand MRE.

Supposedly 300 calories? It really didn't feel like there were 300 calories worth of dried fruit in here, actually. MRE STAR also does not appear to have date codes on anything.

Banana chips, dried pineapple, and dried apricot pieces. All were fresh and the flavor was, but unremarkable. I really would have liked some bigger pieces of fruit. The banana chips were small for what they were supposed to be.

Never bought any of the full MRE STAR meals, and given this side is apparently included in every one, I don't think I will. I have a few other MRE STAR sides that I will review as time permits and as I eat them.

50 grams of sugar = 200 calories

50 cal from fat =250

So there is about 50 cal of protein and carbs to round it out which seems pretty close.

The fruit is sweet to start so the sugar count should be somewhat high, but it appears sugar coated on top of that, perhaps giving the higher cal count than expected for the smaller amount of fruit.

is there a coating or is that just an illusion from the camera?

I think that's just crystallized sugar on the outside of the fruit you're seeing. Palm oil was the last ingredient, but nothing had a coating sort of feel in the mouth or in the hand.

Also, I mislabeled the papaya as apricot in my original posting - oops! That's definitely not apricot in the mix.
