If the coffee is black and caked together and displaying webbing it will not dissolve.

Ah, very interesting. I would love to get my hands on one of these red packets and take a look at the stuff under a high power microscope to which I have access. It should be fairly evident at the point.

most of what i've found is more green and brown/black clumps, so did not risk trying. But good to know about the webbing, I'll keep that in mind for future info.
