Which ration packs contained these smokes?

Post by mediator » Sat May 12, 2018 1:42 pm

Hello everyone. New to Forums, and I'm doing a little research on military field rations, and could use some help. Many years ago, before the Vietnam war as I recall it, my father brought home some C-rations or MCIs or some such, lots of them, as food storage in case of emergency situations. I'm remembering this as the old bomb shelter days, maybe early 1960s, maybe even 1950s. Each of the rectangular cartons had a full pack of cigarettes included along with the cans and foil packets: Camel, Lucky Strike, Pall Mall, short with no filters (I think before filters were invented), no health warnings, quite old. The only warnings are not to try to reuse the Tax Exempt stickers on top of each pack. In my research I have not found reference to any type of field rations that included 20-packs of cigarettes. I saved some of the smokes for curiosity reasons when we threw away all the food as unusable (Sorry about that. It was a long time ago and we had no idea that there might some day be a collector market). Any ideas? Thanks.

They're in great shape, unopened, firm and still obviously have little tubes inside, in case someone wants to buy some. (Personal message)Image

Those cigarette packs are likely from RCI's. (Ration, Combat Individual)

Nice find - if you list them on Ebay tobacco collectors and certain ration guys will pay about $25-$50 per pack depending on how badly they are in the mood for them. They appear to be in good shape too.

Hey man PM sent! I have interest in the Lucky Strikes as a cool display piece!
Killed by rancid pound-cake. I know that will be on my tomb stone.
