USMC ration documents

Gentlemen:

While browsing the internets i came across some interesting official USMC documents pertaining to "feeding, field, Marines"
It's not the official title but you get the idea :D

First up, an 190 page pdf titled

Titled : Marine Corps field feeding program

Interesting excerpts include

Operational planning shall be based on the following
ration mix:
 Days 1 to 21 consist of PORs (FSR or MRE).
 Days 22 to 90 consist of the following computation
of the total personnel to be fed:
 20 percent—PORs, three meals per day.
 30 percent—UGR-H&S, two meals per day
and POR, one meal per day.
 50 percent—UGR-B (or by exception
UGR-A), two meals per day and POR, one
meal per day

All requests for UGR-Es must go through MCICOM G-4 for approval

Ice (yes, ICE) ration considerations"
The planning factor for potable ice is based on 6
pounds per Marine per day in a temperate climate
and 11 pounds per Marine per day in an arid
climate

No idea has anyone read any of these: but the first of the documents i found included stipulations and regulations for chow hall menu items including this interesting snippet

5. Not more than one gas-forming cooked vegetable such as cabbage,
cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and dried beans and peas will be
offered per meal.


So ... um ... no incidents after chow? :D

So ... um ... no incidents after chow? :D


Could also be for aircrew. Gas expands at altitude. If you eat a lot of those vegetables, or corn for that matter, you could develop painful stomach/intestinal gas.

Have seen bags of corn chips blow up like balloons while on an airliner at altitude. Interestingly, when the plane descended the gas went back into the corn chips.
