Date code Identification

Post by JT1991 » Sat Aug 26, 2017 6:04 pm

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all having a good day! Can anyone make out this date code. New to the MRE community. Haven't mastered the long codes yet. This pound cake, (61141) came with some rations from 1974. Just wondering if this is also from 1974 or if it is from another year. Thanks guys!

On the older C-rations the date code started with the year with the first two digits from my knowledge, in this case: 61 = 1961 but im not 100% sure

We had that question before and no solution yet. There was a period, when there was no time code with that stamping, but a manufacturer code related to it.

141st day of 1961? That's my guess
Killed by rancid pound-cake. I know that will be on my tomb stone.

That´s how the MREs code work, but we don´t know when it has started. Old(er) MCIs didn´t use it.

Annnddd the articals I was reading about the date codes said a tank commander was receiving older c-rations dated early 1950s, so it must mean there was a date code there. Meaning I don't know the exact date it started per say, but I can be pretty confident that this date code is pretty much the standard one we are used to.

Quote; A Marine tank commander serving in Vietnam in 1968 noted his unit was frequently supplied with older stocks of C rations, complete with early 1950s dates on the cans.[14] ;End Quote

It sure seems like they mostly had date codes on them. I've seen steve1989 talking about early 1950's stuff and they had date codes on em'
