GI MRE's on Civilian Market

Post by DangerousDave » Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:44 pm

Can't say what the future holds, but during the first term of the Clinton administration, the availability of GI cases of MRE's really dried up. There was nothing down around Bragg, Lee, etc. Nothing at gunshows. It seemed to get better in Clintons' 2nd term, probably because the huge change in Congress from 1996. I guess time will tell. We'll hope for the best. :|

DD,

Yeah now that you mentioned it, there was that time during Slick Willie's first term that the sale of regular military MRE's was pretty low. Didn't see to much change during the second term. With this new president it might change again, who knows. Where I'm at I haven't seen a slow down on MRE's. Probably because there's two wars going on. That and lots of units constantly going on field exercises.

You guys should try and get them here in Canada.

Your country is a festival of rations compared to ours.

You said it, Treesuit. I have a feeling that the ARTEPS are going to dry up also. No ARTEPS, NO leftover CASE A's and B's. :|

It seems like the market shifted from the street to the internet. I remember in the late 80's that loose or cased mre's could often be found at gunshows or surplus stores. Now the best place seems to be Ebay. Theres only 2 guys at my local gunshow who usually have mre's and they want $60 a case firm for '08-'09 inspection dates. I wish Ebay wasn't so competitive.

That $60/case isn't too bad considering you don't have to pay for shipping. Sure, $40 would be nicer but if they're current MREs, I'd consider it.

We have a local gun show coming up in a couple of months so I'll have to check out the MRE situation there.
