I like them a lot.... They are packed with food!!! Specially the chicken and rice. I ate one of those and that bag after adding the water made enough rice for two... !!!
Too bad they are difficult to get.... :(
Peace!

I like them. They're pretty much Mountain House entrees (freeze-dried) along with a few other standard MRE components (crackers, PB, etc.).

I agree, you can make your own. You pay a lot for the white bag...

Try the Mountain House Pro-Packs, you can get them at most sporting goods stores. As KMan mentioned, it's pretty much the same stuff, just in different packaging. Oregon Freeze Dried has been the sole source supplier for the MCWs for about as long as they've been around, and the LRPs before that. They aren't cheap though, I think the Pro-Packs retail for about $5.95 each.

So is there a certain place that will sell the MCWs outright or a civilian co?, I see very few and pricey on ebay. I know Acadamy Sports has some Mountain House, but cheaper thru the internet sites. If I'm correct they are dehydrated? Guess being around snow wouldnt be a problem to get em going.

Everything is pricey on fleaBay, it's a scammers paradise. If you have to have the items in the governmental packaging you'll may pay a bit more for the mystique. If you want some low prices on Mountain House stuff, you might want to check out Mountain House's site. They've been dumping a bunch of stuff under a branding of "Marine Cuisine" for a while now and you can get some great prices (same as Mountain House, just different packaging; it's all from the same source.) http://www.mtnhse.com/mm5/merchant.mvc? ... y_Code=MHS If you want it in the vaccum packaging like the MCW entrees, then try the Mountain House Pro-Paks. As I recall, many of the critical components of the MCWs are commercial items that you can find in any grocery store (e.g. Cup-of-Soup, oatmeal, etc.) The entree components are freeze-dried, the other components like the soup packets will contain both dehydrated and freeze-dried items (e.g. freeze dried chicken meat in the Cup-of-soup) and the oatmeal is instant stuff (use two packets and you'll have the same volume as the MCW ration.) Being around snow shouldn't be an issue as long as you have something to boil water.
