The magnesium bars can be tricky to use, and do require practice. I don't care for them because they take a bit of work and don't always produce reliable results. That's not good when you need a fire right away. The magnesium burns up pretty quickly, which means you better have some dry tinder avail...

What does the average MRE weigh?

Just trying to get an idea of an average weight for either the curent U.S. military or civilian MRE's. How about the FSR's (First Strike Rations)? I know weight will vary slightly according to actual contents, but I'm just looking for an average. 1 pound? More? Less? The only figure I could find on ...

You can get the chocolate peanut butters from theepicenter.com. Not sure about the chunky ones, though.
