I checked the web-site:
http://www.mtrfoods.com/index.htm
No meat. In fact, without reading the details of the ready to eat meals, I can't recognize any of the meal names (I guess if I lived in India it would be a different story . . . yes, I'm a pathetic American with limited meal vocabulary)

I've seen some stuff like this in the store before. I guess you could consider it a "meal" ready to eat if you were a vegetarian, but to me, a bag of rice is more of a side dish than a whole meal. :-) Then again, maybe a bag of cooked rice is better than a bag of nothing when you're hungry in an em...

Kind of like an MRE

I know these aren't true military MRE's but I picked them up at the store anyway because they were only $1.50 ea. (u.s.). They are actually about the same size as an MRE and are supposed to be a full meal that just boils in water. It is very densly packed just like an MRE. The exp. date is in 2009. ...

Why Applesauce???

I'm just curious as to why (to me) this seems like one of the worst choices of food to introduce into a long term storage format.

How does it taste after all those years sealed up?

Military vs. Civilian MRE's

Are military MRE's better than civilian MRE's like many say?
Not just taste but nutritian, and shelf life as well.

What does the taste test tell the experts on this forum?

I'm not talking about MRE's but the compact bars that are sold for survival situations that contain about 2400 calories each. - Has anyone here ever had to use them? - How's the taste? - Good for Long term survival? - Any brand better than other...

call me stupid, but . . .

I see most of the time that cases of "12 meals" are offered for sale, and that each case has a coresponding menu as well. The menu includes the main entre, but isn't each meal a complete meal with other food to go along with the entre? From the photos on this site, that IS what I see. But I also see...

The latest I've seen on eBay have been from 09/2006 for the date packed. Someone is currently running a decent deal - $72 for 2 cases with reasonable shipping - but those MREs are from 01/2006 and will still contain the 2005 menus. Is searching for "mre" the best way to locate them on e-bay? $72.00...
