Re: 2006 Spaghetti and 1996 Crackers

It also certainly doesn't hurt to toss your peanut butter or cheese pouch into the chest pocket of your shirt while you get the rest of the meal in order. They don't need as much kneading...

Re: Slovenian Ration - Type B - Part 2

You know... It seems like a really nice gift for anybody you happen to know who could end up overseas with the military would be to give them one of the long handed titanium spoons. They run less than $10, and there's a hole for a lanyard so they're less likely to get lost.

Re: Thanks rattattoo!

Glad you liked it, Yak! That's a "no" on the OldD stuff. All of the Mil-spec stuff looked pretty much like Mil-spec stuff that would be in rations. The rest was my overzealous Fell-Off-A-Truck Stop purchases. I had expected a bunch of it to get used up at the last of my hammock hangs back in October...

Re: SPAM

I may have already contributed this when we have discussed SPAM™ previously, but it's always worth tossing out... "SUPPOSEDLY..." one of the reasons that it became so popular with the natives in the South Pacific Islands during and after World War II was that it "supposedly" tasted very close to wha...

Cook untill you have some nice grill lines on the pineapple and SPAM chunks. [ it doesn't hurt to microwave your onions...

Re: Natick Corn Flake Survival Bar Study

Norton wrote: "For food value Oats would be a better choice for a survival bar." I wonder if it is possible that this is based on the long-trail "thru-hikers", experience/belief that crushed Fritos™ [corn/maize] are one of the best caloric values you can carry. I don't know what the science in that ...

Re: Has anyone gotten seriously ill?

Sometimes it ain't all bad to give your body a lil challenge.
I look on my sampling as the same as being a kid and eating a little mud just to see what it was like... "that which doesn't kill me makes me stronger"

I like to give my gut bacteria the occasional stress test just to keep them up to par.
