Re: Zapplesauce

WebDad-- I've seen different flavored applesauce [sanz the ZAP] in retorts with a screwtop at my market. They'd be great for "roll-yer-own" camping MREs.

Re: Chinese PLA Type 09: Menu 1

Thank you for the review, and the great pictures. I was planning on reviewing this one, but now it looks like I'll get to keep it in the stash. I get the overwhelming sense that these are truly "field rations". I think they are primarily intended to be cold. Does anyone know anything about...

Re: 1980's accessory packet B mini review & NATO/Euro gear day

Great review, and it was nice to see that Russian mug. Really great looking design. Love the handle lines. Is it heavier grade aluminum than you would expect? Yes it is a thicker version of a old fashion Tin Camping mug. Very solid but still light, Actually I have been using it for both cold and ho...

Re: 1988 Menu 7 - Beef Stew

It seems such a shame that they had nailed the product as well as they did the nutcake. As I remember had a pretty high nutritional value in addition to really good taste. 1988, and still edible, is a pretty good indication of shelf life. It would seem at something that good, and done so well, would...

Re: WW2 German ration

How hard/firm is "fresh" Scho-Ka-Kola ?
The tin I have is perfectly edible, and not badly whitened, but it's very very hard

Re: Home cooking

Housil's turkey dish looks great.
I just got through plating up and chowing down some Lamb Saag that I ran up this afternoon. [spicy Indian curry type thing- lamb chunks stewed up with spinach and potatoes]

Re: Menu 9 Chicken Ala King date?

I am not giggly wild about any of the MRE meals when eaten cold. Even the best of them drop to the level of subsistence chow.
The worst of them go someplace south of library paste.

However, it certainly nice to know that even meals that old would still be edible.
