Re: Bad Luck With the FRH's... and ???'s

I don't think the temperature could've had anything to do with the failures. It was a wonderful June night. Probably around 75°F

Bad Luck With the FRH's... and ???'s

I took along some MRE's on a canoe-camping trip to Flagstaff Lake [further upstate here in Maine] this weekend. I wanted to show my buddy how they work and that they weren't really as bad as he might have heard. The meals were mil-spec, 2006 dated, Enchilada dinners. Neither of the FRH's from those ...

Re: MRE "wish list"

Norton- Welcome to the forum... I can think of a couple of meal packages right off that at least go partway to fulfilling your camp chow are wishes. The 2013 #12 [previously #14] is Penne with "veggie sausage". It isn't going to be the Italian sausage from down at Luigi's, but it's not a bad meal. G...

Re: FRH... Re-wired

I only had one old FRH sitting around upstairs. The rest of them are somewheres down with the meals in the "refrigerated storage" [ie. the cellar]. I did find a section of the Mylar aluminized insulation sheets though. They are reflective on both sides, and not as prone to tears or puncture as the b...

FRH... Re-wired

Since I am basically a user and consumer of my MREs, I am always looking for ways to kick things up a notch. I had some of that Mylar/aluminized bubblewrap from some sort of refrigerated gift food that someone had sent us over the holidays and I thought that using some might increase the efficiency ...

Re: Survival Food Bars

Got a dog? Or a kid you're not that fond of? Personally, I would just do the sniff and nibble tests. It's kind it's kind of like not minding a little dirt in your food. Probably good to give your gut bacteria a heartier bit of exercise every now and then. We may very well be "Sanitizing" ourselves i...

Re: MRE "wish list"

They are both in MY cupboard... Along with three kinds of sardines. Don't want to know what that has to say about my tastes.
But all three are shelf-life, non-perishable, and easy to tote long.

Re: RCIR Breakfast Review

To follow up on Bypah's post--- As he indicates in the next to last photograph, Americans can, will , [and often have to] defend their bacon. With a continental breakfast, the situation is much less likely to arise. Thank you too for the wonderful and instructive illustrations of our American usages...

Re: RCIR Breakfast Review

I wonder what it is with the breads and biscuits. You would think that they would be something that would actually be pretty easy to get right in a ration, but they seem to be the low spot quite internationally. I guess it probably has to do with having them sturdy enough to survive the "drop test" ...

Re: MRE "wish list"

Rationista- Yeah, the French really do know how to dine. It was actually the reviews of some of the French rations that put me in mind of how nice it would be to have some kind of a pate for our guys. However, as it's been pointed out on here a couple of times, the guys who are actually eating these...
