Re: TASTE TEST: 1991 Chocolate Nut Cake

Cool review, Elevatorfan73! Those nut-cakes are oddly indestructible! Now, I've had a couple rancid ones - but I also live in Florida where the heat temps run up to 100 degrees sometimes in the year and those bad ones I'd gotten were all bought locally (in this terrible fluctuating heat). As for the...

Re: new Ukrainian ration

I would be interested to see if those Ukrainian rations end up on Ebay at one point or another. Thankyou for the interesting post, Laughing_man! And Ken, that is very interesting about all the US rations ending up on the black market! I wish those cases of MCW's could make it over to us MREin...

Re: Halal MRE Case

Right on, Nod! I picked up a case too - was only $68 including shipping. I have some extensive photos of the case I bought. If anyone's interested, I'll start posting them so you guys know what's going on with these new and very interesting Halal MRE's! For example, the Saag Chole with Lamb is prett...

Re: Yellow Pack HDR - Year 2000 DoP

I think the Rice & Beans from early HDR's have a completely different recipe than the 2003 and later Red Beans & Rice. This entree was not sweet tasting, and was dry. The spice was at a minimal and was pretty bland, even with added seasoning. Fully edible - but only enjoyable if you were truly hungry.

Re: Japan Self-Defense Forces Type II: Duck Stew

I love the photos, NNF! :) They really don't give you much duck meat in that entree, do they? Curious of the Fat, Carb, Protein ratio on that one. The Mackerel looks like it must've had a somewhat strong flavor to it. Was it any different from canned mackerel taste? Super cool review! :D

Re: 80's Freeze Dried Fruit

Awesome review and pics steve! When we first got the MREs (brown pouch, yes I'm old   ) we were fascinated and amused by the pouches of styrofoam that kinda looked like and definately tasted kinda somewhat like fruit. Of course a few of the guys in my unit did not understand the relatio...

Re: 80's Freeze Dried Fruit

Steve, also awesome review :D 8) ! ...Sadly, 3 out of 4 here were no good!... I´m surprised, all four closed pouches look good, it seems that vacuum was existent. Also the opened "Peaches" and "Strawberries" look ok, why were they not good? The "Strawberries" were my favorite in past times, I do no...

Re: The Phases of MRE Catsup

Very interesting review 8) on a Accessory Packet content that is gone since 1987 :( : The CATSUP was part of the MRE Accessory Packets D and E between 1981 and 1987. It was designated to use it with the "Pork Patties Dehydrated" and the "Frankfurters". I have couple of those in my collection, some ...

Re: Taste Test: 1992 MAPLE NUT CAKE

I'm so glad you did a review of your Maple Nut Cake, Elevatorfan! Awesome! & Thanks for taking pics! :D I've had one back in 2010 that was sadly no good, the oil in the nuts went rancid.. :( But I had one in 2012 that was amazing, and I know exactly the kindof neat experience you had eating that thi...

Re: 1980 LRP - Beef With Rice - Full Review

What is interesting to see is back in the 80's and earlier most of the foods and elements of the rations where made for the military in the starndard "green, brown, white and black" label markings. Everything very "neutral" military style. After the 90's and now we see a lot of "brands" and ...
