Re: 1951 Ration, Indv., Trail, Frigid

@Strummer7 please do save one of these for steve1989, if you are not aware steve1989 is a great guy who documents historical rations and posts the videos to Youtube! Please check out his videos. This ration really needs to be documented!

Re: 1951 Ration, Indv., Trail, Frigid

Re: TFF

When I was in I personally knew three solders in my platoon who would simply avoid all the dessert/baked items, because they didn't want the calories, sugar and Trans-Fats from those items. They would usually only go for the protein instead (chicken breast). I also did this for a while when in the f...

Re: TFF

I think its a labeling thing to get the soldiers attention (to alert them to something new), most people who try and eat healthy tend to avoid trans-fats. In my experience a good bit of solders try and eat healthy when in the field and will tend to shy away from the MRE items with trans-fat, especia...

Re: Anyone ever try the Country Captain Chicken?

Yes, we used to call it "Country-Crapt'In-Chicken". It was not very good. But still when you compare CCC to the veggie omelet that came later, CCC was much better!

Re: What is this ration?

Norge is correct. I actually tried one of these in the mid-90's. I had a full ration - I found that the cans had leaked "tin" or "silvery in color" into the items in the cans. It was really bad for things like the "boned chicken" IIRC. So don't expect to be able to eat this thing just FYI.

Re: Quiggins Kendal Mint Cake

I found this blog post with that brand of Kendal Mint Cake and it has an paper insert that dates the ration pack menu to 95/96: https://hatchfive.wordpress.com/2016/07/09/british-army-boil-in-the-bag-ration-pack/ So that said, if the menu sheet does indeed come from the ration in the picture, then t...

Re: FR 2000 Field Ration

What you have is a standard (although early version) of the Norwegian 24 hour FR2000 ration.

You can read more about it here:
