Re: Mysterious MRE Box...super early version?

Capa, I'm about to head out of town for a few weeks, but I would love to try to acquire this from you for the Military Ration Museum (a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to preserving the history of military food development). We could pay for it, or we could provide a tax deduction receipt for it and cove...

Re: Buying Euro rations from ebay

Same here too - most times I get something internationally it'll sit at either the sending country's customs or us entry customs for the bulk of the time it's shipping then all of a sudden it'll be at my house and I'll get a delivery update. Sometimes it'll start moving in-country first, but that's ...

Re: Any Good Books on WWII US Army Rations?

The museum's been building a library for a few years. I'll check and see what I have that covers WW2 and will let you know titles/etc. One of these days we want to get a copy of vols 1/2 of Jim Pool's Wehrmacht books, but we do have a handful of other tomes, military and civilian.

I want to say the RCW ran from 1989 to 2000, with Wornick taking over the contract in 1998 so this seems like a good estimate. 2001 production switched to the LRP/MCW being essentially mirrors of each other with varied components.

Re: Looking to buy Italian rations.

They want €21.50 for the ration + €16.50 s+h + another €36 GER -> USA  You can invite your whole family into an Italian Restaurant for this  Honestly for an Italian in-date that's not horrible. €74 is about $83 at the moment, and I've definitely seen Italian rations go for more in the ...

Re: What does the crescent moon mean?

Hmm, it seems like the pdf's that other post linked to to explain it all are no longer there. This quote came from Luther Hanson, curator of the US Quartermaster Museum: The history of the crescent has a wide and varied history. The crescent has been used as a symbol of plenty by the Babylonians to ...

Re: Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Powder Orange Flavor

I like the beverage powders ("coolaid" like), but these Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Powder were "odd"... http://www.smilies.4-user.de/include/Krank/smilie_krank_142.gif I'm the opposite. I don't drink soda, and haven't really had Kool Aid since I was young with any regularity, so I usually do...

Re: Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Powder Orange Flavor

I like the taste  I never thought of them as soapy, but yeah - they're definitely salty. The salt's what's helping you retain water (as I'm sure you're already aware).
