Re: College-grade MREs

When I went to college, we were required to live in the dorm and purchase a meal plan. Dining hall food wasn't great for what the plan cost, but it was filling and there was lots of it. They don't do that any more? Costs extra money to do that. It's a handy way for schools to bilk a few more dollar...

Re: Are Russian rations ok to eat?

The Russian rations are fine. They're rated for 2 years (standard storage conditions), and will probably have most of that shelf life remaining, if you get them off Amazon. I've eaten a couple at the 36-month mark, and there's no difference from a fresh one. Chocolate was fine and jam was still ster...

Indeed. Gotta be O-4 or O-5. I doubt some captain or miserable LT would haul that around himself.

Re: A Recent Ration Revival

Welcome, Smitty. Canadians are welcome, as are pictures of rations- always.

As for reviews, they're mostly a matter of opinion. Steve1989 is very good and professional. I'd also recommend The Crazy Russian Hacker, Emmy Made in Japan and The Workman.

Re: Question about Australia cr1m package dates

I've had a few also. Even when 4 or 5 years old, everything is still good. The can of peaches is a little rusty on the outside, and the chocolate will have bloomed, but everything else was great.

Re: Azerbaijan Army food and rations

Wow- thanks for the information ! Those pictures and list have caused me to add another ration to the wishlist. It looks similar to, but more hearty than the Kazakh ration. (It would be hard not to taste better too.)

Re: Why do Travellunch freeze dried items have such short shelf life?

I think that those meals are high quality, and many have dairy, but probably they last longer than 2 years A lot of it has to do with what's been verified through testing. Not every company sees value in accelerated shelf life testing. U.S. firms doing this are able to claim a shelf life (conservat...
