Re: WWII Remington Rand 1911 A1 Pistol

I'd put it on your bucket list to take a trip here and try it sometime! There are gun laws, so it would be best if you knew someone here that owned guns that could take you somewhere to do so some shooting outdoors. Otherwise, there are plenty of indoor/established ranges that may allow you rent and...

Re: Calling all vintage ration/food collectors...

This is cool, thanks for passing it on! I sent them some photos of my late war K ration. I'm sure it's not much compared to what other collectors have to offer, but it's a start!

Re: 1948 B2 Unit

Thanks for sharing some pics, this is pretty neat. I think the most impressive component is the sugar. I'm going to guess that's to go with the coffee, but I wonder if the texture of it is any different than what we are used to.

Re: Mountain House MCW entrees only 3yrs???

FWIW, in 2017 I purchased two cases of 2004 date of production MCWs and all the mains (manufactured by Mountain House aka Oregon Freeze Dry) were still good and tasted as such. Around that same time, I purchased a few 1989 RCWs (the precursor to the MCWs) and those were also perfectly edible. I'd ha...

I've already reported his post, I'm not going to engage the troll any further. Perhaps I shouldn't have responded in the first place.

Re: EBAY Asshat of the Month Award

If you have kids and a house payment, that's your problem so don't ask for my sympathy because you won't get it. Charging $75 for one MRE surely won't help you much with making the next house payment. No one is denying your right to sell something for an unreasonable price, but I have a right to poi...

This guy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/113871605177
The only shocker is that he isn't charging an extra $37 for shipping!

WWII Remington Rand 1911 A1 Pistol

I recently acquired a 1943 Remington Rand 1911 pistol. It is fully original and was used in WWII by a US G.I., likely carried in the Pacific and/or Europe. This is one of those cases where I wish inanimate objects could talk and share their stories because I'd really like to know the story behind it...

Re: Getting your MRE production date with PowerShell

I actually didn't know that a five digit Julian date code was a thing until you mentioned it. I also agree that it should be adopted. I got bored and decided to add the functionality to decipher a 5 digit Julian date code to that PowerShell script. I set the year to go back to 9 years ago since it's...

Getting your MRE production date with PowerShell

I decided to write a small PowerShell script that will convert a Julian date code to a normal calendar date. I did this entirely for fun but thought I'd share it. To use it, Windows users can go to their Start Menu and search for "PowerShell ISE", open it, copy and paste the following code and click...
