Re: Another Ration Article

That IS interesting. I especially like the line "What the troops what is protein." Well, no kidding. Current rations are grossly carb heavy, presumably because the bigwigs think that quick energy is most important. That's dumb. Sustained energy and maintaining muscle is what matters - and protein is...

SERAC Beef and pasta

Just finished a South African entree by SERAC: Beef and Pasta. I wish the US made rations this good. Large cubes of real beef, macaroni, peas, pumpkin, carrots and more. Nicely but gently spiced. I had the entree only, so I heated it in water. Very good texture although the pasta was understandably ...

Re: RockyRaab - FRH Tutorial

By the way, I don't claim this is the absolute best way to use an FRH, just a better way than the instructions say. It works for me, and I hope it does for others as well.

Only because Smitty mentioned it, here's the link to my book publisher, where I now have the books at 40% off. You can get print or ebook versions. To read a preview, click on "More Details" and then on "Preview".

Re: FRH salt trick.

Right with you, mike. I called them Fail to Really Heat in the presentation, and that's pretty much the truth. Using salty water kicks them into another gear, or revives an old one to an extent, but the current FRH is marginal at best. For many reasons, including size of the bag. Those mylar sheets ...

Re: FRH salt trick.

Putting the retort pouch inside the FRH puts it in contact with all those "Do Not Consume" chemicals, though. That's the main reason I stopped doing that. There's enough direct conduction to heat the whole retort, if you flip it over midway - and you can't do that if the retort is inside the FRH. I ...

Re: MRE Meet Up 2019 August 17th!

Just a note: Somewhere during the trip, I picked up an "airport bug" and am now ill with cold/flu. I suspect it came aboard on Friday, because I started feeling symptoms during the flights home Sunday. So if any of you come down with a bug today, I'm to blame. My sincerest apologies, believe me. Goo...
