Yes, they say that american MRE's have been spotted on internet marketplace for 120 hryvna (ca. 10 USD) each - which is damn expensive for Ukraine. My impression is that this is not a widespread corruption scheme or sth - just someone sold few MRE's he got on the internet asking high prices for them...

This is just not true. Only once in a year leavened bread is forbidden: during Pesach holiday. In fact, it is crucial that during Shabes dinner two braided yeast challah are served.
