i recently had an mre packed in 2005. it was the beef patty that has mexican mac and cheese in it. while i really like the meal. the bread that was in it was square shaped instead of the loaf looking shape that is used now. that was the first time i have seen it like that. it was made by pangea world bakers. also it was very hard and crumbly. is that normal?

I second the motion that water is more important. Water is more important than an electrolyte replacement that may be included in an MRE.

I can tell you from experience that constipation can be a problem.

However, constipation is a result of dehydration or not enough water.
It would be wise to increase your intake of water. Increasing your water intake will help your body process all the fats, carbs, nutrients etc... especially if you like to add extra salt. Because of the high calorie count in the MRE water is essential.

I know in Britain that the MOD recommend a maximum of 2 weeks on the 24 Hour ration packs. I keep ration meals etc as part of my 'preps' but at the end of the day they are an expensive way of giving yourself a long-term food source.

The only argument I can think of in favour of what they're saying is that MREs and other retort rations can have a lower water content than the equivalent home cooked food, so yes, if you do want a good balanced diet and to not get "blocked up" while eating MREs for extended periods, a reasonable water supply is needed. However, you would need that water anyway, and you'd need a lot more if you're going to be rehydrating their foods, so I'd say their argument is null and void marketing.

My first reaction is, "That's just plain ignorant".

My second reaction is, "Right...that's why the military uses MREs...because MREs make the soldiers sick 'over a period of time'." (sarcarsm intended).

Look, they're a vendor and they sell emergency preparedness supplies. But they don't sell MREs. So it's in their best interested to make up FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) against MREs even when it's blatently not true.

I found this on www.survivalacres.com. They sell freeze dried food and dehyrdated food. This is what they have to say about MRE's:

MRE's eaten over a period of time will make you quite sick. They high in fats and low in fiber and have "something" in them to keep your from having regular bowl movements. Or it's just their low fibre content. Their high calorie content means that you can survive on just one per day, although you'd definitely not feel full all day.

One the really serious side effects of MRE's is that they will also "stop you up" rather badly. You will have a hard time going to the bathroom. In fact, it might be a bit serious and extremely unpleasant. This is a very widespread and common compaint about MRE's.

I originally posted these pictures and started talking with Vladimir about trying to setup a group ration order for us. He provided those pictures to me after the first day of us talking about the Rations and discussing prices and shipping. End result of the first days conversation= Get pictures on day 2 and price would be 7-10 dollars per meal depending on the manufacturers warehouse supplies.

The next day I got the pictures from Vladimir and I checked over each detailed picture and got pictures of meals being prepared in the field as requested. These are the special forces, long range patrol, light weight, paratroopers, type meals by the way if you didn't know. The new rations for the regular troops are the newer box rations that we have a pic of on MRE info. So after posting the pictures for us to see I asked Vlad about how many rations he could obtain, he assured me that quantity is not an issue. I was assured.

Day three= I thoroughly look over the pictures again and I post on this aite for members interested in a group buy. I go back to Vlad and ask how fast he could ship. He said immediately and that he takes Paypal..NICE!!!.
I try to re-confirm the price that we discussed and that's when shit hit the fan. (sorry KMAN I try not to curse but...this still kind of pisses me off a bit)

The conversation went down almost exactly like Kman discribed.

Me: so you can give me those meals for about 7-10 bucks a piece still right?
Vlad: well I was thinking a little bit more than that. I have been told by the soldiers recently that these rations are thought to be the best ration among many NATO forces.

ME: Okay Vlad that's great to hear(Vlad not knowing that I had tasted these rations before) So, you're thinking about 9-10 dollars per meal instead? I'll make this easy for you and me how bout we make it an easy 10 dollars for each of the rations. It's still a good price for me and you're still making a good profit margin on the deal. And remember Vlad that I'm going to be purchasing a lot more than just one meal!

Vlad: Listen mike. I do not do small orders online. I have access to some of the best Russian military equipment available and I usually do sales no less than 1000 dollars.

Me: So what does all of that mean?

Vlad: That means I can not sell those rations for no less than 70 dollars a piece without shipping.

I see your point. Believe me in most societies haggling over stuff is the normal way people do business every day. In most Middle Eastern countires if you don't haggle over a price it's considered an insult. I kind of had that problem last time I was in Iraq.

I don't know about DB being a "dumb crook" so to speak. I think he was pretty smart to begin with. I agree with your comment that there are very few smart crooks out there that do a job and fade away into the woodwork to enjoy the loot but this guy......I don't know.
This guy seems to have been pretty smart seeing as how nobody has found him to date. I surmise that this guy survived the jump. I mean how many crooks have been on the run for decades and never got caught? That's where I think this mystery is...he's somewhere nobody thinks to look and he HASN"T spent the money. That would be a obvious red flag to any law enforcement agency.

and yes the village its boring but the guesthouse "Taverne" and "Goldener Adler" are very good for dinner or lunch.

From the training area itself I will suggest that it is the most beautiful landscape in eruope of alle training areas.
